The Gailes Scholarship was created in 1984 to honor Dr. Lonnie E Gailes, who retired as principal of Byrd Middle School (now Quioccasin) that year. The scholarship is awarded to a graduating high school senior who attended Quioccasin Middle School for at least two years and is awarded on the basis of high moral character and leadership in school and the community.
The scholarship is awarded in the amount up to $10,000 and may be used toward college tuition or secondary education from an accredited vocational or technical school.
